The new Lynx Light Rail System in Charlotte, North Carolina is a 9.6 mile extension that runs from I-485 at South Boulevard to Charlotte’s Uptown area. The “Blue Line” is the first part of the Charlotte Area Transit System (“CATS”) light rail system. In all, the Blue Line station has a total of 15 rail stops, providing convenient methods of transportation to your work. Lynx Operating Times:
- The Lynx Blue Line operates daily, from 5:26 am to 1:26 a.m.
- It runs every 10 minutes during the weekday rush hour and every 15 minutes during non-rush hours.
- On the weekends, it operates every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during the late night hours.
- Proposed extensions are planned for a Red Line extension of 25 miles, a Silver Line extension of 13.5 miles, and a West Corridor extension line of 6.4 miles.
Lynx – Rider Friendly:
The Lynx Blue Line operates via a ticket, payment fare system. There are various ticket vending machines located at each station with a posted fare price. Charlotte is committed to providing quality opportunities for all its citizens, which is why the CATS organization has equipped the Lynx Blue Line with disability enabled services. Free parking is available at seven different Lynx park and ride locations.
All stations are equipped with an automatic audio announcement system to announce the arrival of each train entering the station. Outside train stops feature a covered waiting area with seating, a water fountain, an emergency call box, bright lighting, bike racks, rail maps, and elevators. The Lynx trains are silver and blue, a sleek engineered light rail train, which joins the CATS transportation system family of a hybrid electric Sprinter bus system and the Gold Rush rubber wheeled trolley car system.
